The Story Behind JAKU.
Hi, I'm Sophia, born and raised in Zurich and someone who always loved a good morning ritual.
For years, coffee was part of mine, until it started making me feel jittery and anxious. I wanted something that energized me in a calmer, more balanced way and that’s when I discovered matcha.
Finding quality matcha in Switzerland wasn’t easy. Much of it tasted bitter or lacked transparency about its origin. I wanted to know where my matcha came from and feel good about drinking it, in both taste and values.
That curiosity led me to Japan, where I visited small, family-run tea farms. I met people who care deeply about their craft: growing, harvesting, and stone-grinding matcha with intention, patience, and pride.
Their matcha is vibrant, pesticide-free, full of character and made with integrity. It was exactly what I had been searching for.
With JAKU., I’m bringing this kind of matcha to Switzerland, sourced directly from the farmers, in small batches, with no shortcuts or vague blends. Just honest, farm-to-cup matcha grown with heart. 💚
The Meaning of JAKU.
The name JAKU. comes from the fourth and final principle of the Japanese tea ceremony: jaku (寂) = tranquility. It describes a calm, grounded state of being fully present. That’s the feeling we hope to bring into your everyday life through one simple ritual: preparing and enjoying a mindful cup of matcha.
At JAKU., our mission is to offer matcha that feels personal, intentional, and honest. We source directly from a small family-run farm in Wazuka, Uji, Japan: a place we’ve visited, and people we know by name.
Our matcha is crafted in small batches, without shortcuts or mass production, just care, tradition, and pride in every step.
Each sip is a quiet invitation to pause, reconnect, and carry a little more harmony (wa 和), respect (kei 敬), purity (sei 清) and tranquility (jaku 寂) into your day. 💚
